From the Texas Department of Transportation: PHASE II of construction will begin the evening of Thursday 10/26, which will affect the commute of those traveling from the north who typically exit FM 3406, as well as those who live in the neighborhoods along FM 3406 west of I-35. The eastbound lanes of the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 will be completely closed during arrival time on Friday 10/27 (westbound lanes will not be affected). This closure is expected to last ten months, though it could be completed in as few as eight months.

FM 3406 Bridge Closing Detours
We strongly suggest that you allow extra time for your morning commute. Again, the expected time of completion is 8-10 months. The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) improvement project began in 2017 and addresses congestion from the highly-trafficked Interstate 35. In fact, this area is one of the top 100 most congested roadway segments in Texas. The project includes replacing and widening the Old Settlers Boulevard bridge, constructing two new U-turn bridges, & bicycle and pedestrian enhancements. And while we all know the headache this 10 month closure will cause – especially for the residents who live off FM 3406 – it’s going to be a big improvement when it is finished.
