A Healthy and Happy Year: New Year’s Resolutions for Pets
First of all, allow us to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful 2017!
It’s that time again, the start of a new year and the chance to clean up bad habits and begin a new routine. Very few of us can claim that there aren’t any areas of our lives that couldn’t use a little adjustment, and the same can probably be said for our pets.
Your team at Heart of Texas is committed to the health and well-being of your furry family members, which is why we’ve come up with a list of our favorite New Year’s resolutions for pets.
Battle the Bulge with a Daily Walk
Humans aren’t the only species battling the obesity epidemic. Over half of pet dogs and cats in the United States are overweight, and the numbers are growing. Overweight pets are at risk for many of the same debilitating conditions as humans, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and joint problems.
Keeping your pet at his or her ideal weight is an important goal, and one to aspire to all year long. A daily walk is the perfect way to accomplish keeping your pet (and you) in tiptop shape, and our mild winters make it easy to grab the leash and go during any season. Walking is a wonderful, low-impact exercise, and it will also strengthen the bond you share with your pet.
Tie Up Loose Ends
A new year is the perfect opportunity to finally cross off any lingering “must-do’s” you’ve been avoiding when it comes to your pet. Has it been some time since your pet has been in for a wellness exam? Have you forgotten to purchase his or her winter doses of parasite preventative? Are ID tags and microchip updated to reflect your current contact information? Been meaning to start brushing your pet’s teeth but haven’t gotten around to it?
Be proactive and call your regular veterinarian and schedule your appointment today.
New Year’s Resolutions for Pets Can Be Fun!
Owning a pet is a big responsibility, but it shouldn’t be all work and no play! Make 2017 the year you resolve to have more fun with your pet, whether that means a daily session of fetch or laser pointer, exploring new dog parks, or taking more road trips together. By simply going somewhere new with your pet, you will be making great memories together at the same time.
